A Sign Among Us - Introduction
Just as one weak link can break a mighty chain or a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link, some chains need to be broken. The purpose of this book is to strengthen those links in need of repair. And sever those that are of no help, those that are hindrances, and those that we do not want to haunt our children as they do us. I pray the Lord has revealed to me what he wants to be shared. As Joshua took his people across the river Jordan the Lord spoke to him. He was told to have one man from each tribe take a stone, twelve stones in all. The men each placed their stone, their burden, in the midst of the Jordan. They were placed there to be a memorial. Joshua spoke saying, 'What mean these stones? Then ye shall let your children know saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land. For the Lord your God dried up the waters of Jordan from before you, until you were passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us, until we were gone over.'
Remember this was a generation that was not there to witness the Red Sea being parted. Finally Joshua concluded with, 'That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord, that is mighty: that ye might fear the Lord your God for ever.'
Have we gained victory in our lives in areas and forgot to humbly keep in mind what the Lord has done for us? As a result have we forgotten to prepare our children for their future struggles? Have we forgotten the past ourselves or blocked it out?
As for our strengths the Lord has allowed us to maintain; are we ready to pass them on to our children? We need to remember how we acquired them. What was the struggle, what was the life lesson, what was revealed to us, as that strength became a part of our personality?
In regards to our areas of weakness, are we aware of them? Have we overlooked them or justified them for such a period of time that we are complacent to them? The Bible has stories of children following their parent's examples in life when they are older.
How do we want our children to walk? How are we to walk? Even when no one is looking? But everyone is doing it.
Let's review our character and see which links of it are in need of repair. Let's further examine our character and see which chains are holding us back and need to be broken. Just like Joshua, maybe we need to have a memorial erected so when future generations ask we will be able to give them an answer.
