Focusing on the Future - Lesson 9 - Rewards II

As we concluded last week…

We are not worthy of the rewards we now get
or the rewards we will receive in glory.
We know we are sinners and don’t have to rest in that knowledge.
We should walk worthy.
Sin less tomorrow than we did today.

Help our children to learn from our mistakes.
Love them and encourage them, as they are not ours.

Encourage and love our spouse and not fault find.
Pray and work together as we strive to understand the Lord’s plan for our lives.

Edify and uplift fellow Christians,
Be happy when they have victory
And love them when they stumble.

Reward For Spiritual Service

The Soul-winners

No work is so excellent and glorious as that of turning sinners to righteousness,
and none shall receive so high a reward at the last day.
And Spurgeon stated…
‘May every one of us labor to be of that brilliant company.’

Daniel 12:3, ‘And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.’

Humble Servants

However low we come down in our services to those that are Christ's,
all that is done for His sake,
and that bears the stamp of love to His blessed name,
shall be divinely appreciated and owned and rewarded.

Matthew 10:42, ‘And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.’

It is not the greatness of the help, or the intrinsic value of the gift, which gives it its worth, but the evidence it is of love and thoughtfulness. -Black

The Faithful Stewards

Matthew 25:23, ‘His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.’

Our opportunities to do good are our talents. -Mather

The Benevolent

Synonyms for the word benevolent: kind, caring, compassionate,
generous, giving, kindly, benign and munificent (bountiful.)

To love is to want to give and above all give oneself.
A perfect love is the perfect gift of oneself without thought
of reward or return. -Stuart

Luke 6:35, ‘But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.’

Matthew 6:4, ‘That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.’

For Suffering Endured

Matthew 5:11-12, ‘Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.’

2 Timothy 2:12, ‘If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:’

Earthly Rewards, a Source of Temptation

Deuteronomy 16:19, ‘Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.’

Proverbs 2:7, ‘He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.’

Proverbs 10:9, ‘He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.’

Proverbs 14:11, ‘The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.’

Proverbs 28:6, ‘Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.’
