A Prosperous Life - Lesson 3 - Sitteth Not
Of this thirteen week series,This should be the last negative lesson.
I say negative in the since that we are focusing on the bad of others,
As we make sure we don’t do what they may be doing.
Then we can focus on what we need to do.
Or reinforce what we have already implemented in our own life.
Psalm 1:1-3, ‘Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.’
When we have once given place to evil counsel,
or to our own sin nature,
we begin to forget we are in our sin,
and we fall into contempt of God,
which is called the seat of the scorners.
Some synonyms for this word contempt: disdain, dislike, disrespect, disapproval, scorn, hatred, derision & condescension.
Contempt is the opposite of: respect, approval & admiration.
I don’t know if the scorner is saved or not saved.
I don’t know if this person is backslidden or having a bad day.
This person’s conscience is seared;
Quite possibly a believer in all unbelief.
Now, blessed is the man who sits not down in his SEAT.
Psalm 119:115, ‘Depart from me, ye evildoers: for I will keep the commandments of my God.’
Are we that bold?
(What advice of strength, would you give someone not as strong?)
(Even God knows we can’t keep His commandments…)
Ephesians 5:11, ‘And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.’
To avoid them is not enough.
How are we to reprove them?
(Should we criticize, scold and rebuke someone?)
(Or should our light shine a little brighter to reprove them?)
Proverbs 1:22, ‘How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?’
Wisdom reprimands three kinds of men,
the foolish or simple who err out of ignorance,
the mockers who cannot stand to be taught,
and the fools who are drowned in worldly lusts
and hate the knowledge of godliness.
So are we getting better and growing,
or do we have to answer the question, how long?
Proverbs 9:12, ‘If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.’
Though our wisdom and folly affect others,
the principal harvest from them must be reaped by ourselves.
Personal responsibility is always recognized in God's moral government.
Do we take our salvation for granted?
Do we truly take our personal responsibility seriously?
Or do we throw it to the Lord too quickly?
Psalm 26:4-5, ‘I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.’
Are this bold when we speak to the Lord?
Or are we asking forgiveness for the same sins as yesterday?
Or are we hiding our face from the Lord,
like a dog that knocked over the garbage can?
Jeremiah 15:17, ‘I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation.’
Indignation is righteous anger like that of Jesus
when He overturned the money changers.
Do we ever choose to be alone?
Or do we sit with those we probably shouldn’t be,
And try to justify it?
