Striving for the Prize - Lesson 2 - Preparing

Whether you want to be or not you are in a race.
It has already begun and you have not yet completed it,
so that puts you somewhere in the middle.

Are you ready?
Have you prepared?
How is your focus?
How is your endurance?

Are you running from something or
are you running toward something?

Stripping for the Contest

Hebrews 12:1, ‘Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,’

Let us lay aside every weight…

What are some things that are possibly weighing us down to hinder our performance?

And the sin which doth so easily beset us…
Beset: overwhelmed, snowed under, inundated, beleaguered, weighed down & plagued.

Colossians 3:8, ‘But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.’

1Peter 2:1, ‘Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,’

Rejoiceth … as to run

Psalm 19:5, ‘Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.’

Are you in the right race?

I Timothy 1:12, ‘And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;’

2 Corinthians 12:9, ‘And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.’
