Bend in the Road - Lesson 3 - Walking with God
In the same way that God,By way of our obedience,
Gives us all happiness.
So from our disobeying God
We are paving the way of all our miseries.
God never gave a commandment to us,
Which He did not design that we should obey.
Do we pick and choose the teachings we think are more important than others?
Do we assign different degrees of severity to sin as we see fit?
Do we think some sins are acceptable if the end results turn out ok?
Remember 99% loyalty is 100% disloyalty.
Are we walking with God?
Are we walking next to God?
Are we walking our own walk, all alone?
Obedience to all the commands of God is beneficial to the highest good of all of us,
in this world as well as in the world to come.
If we walk against God’s authority we will be treated as rebels.
Deuteronomy 5:33, ‘Ye shall walk in all the ways which the LORD your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.’
What is the Lord getting us ready for?
What is He getting you ready for?
Genesis 5:24, ‘And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.’
This man didn’t see death,
He was raptured out of here.
Why?
He was warmly submissive to Him,
He sought his guidance,
He believed his declarations,
He obeyed his commands,
and he enjoyed his presence.
Hebrews 11:5, ‘By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.’
He pleased God;
by walking with Him.
He had confidence in Him,
lived in communion with Him,
opened his heart to Him,
and consulted Him as his friend.
Amos 3:3, ‘Can two walk together, except they be agreed?’
What does this verse say to you?
Genesis 6:9, ‘These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.’
Perfect; not in the sense of being sinless;
but in the sense of being sincere,
upright, and truly devoted to God.
How would the Lord describe our walk?
We know we are to walk after God and have no gods besides Him.
We are to take His law for the directive of our conduct.
In particular we are to bend our whole heart and soul
to the observance of it,
so that we might not only have faith without,
but, faithfulness within.
2Kings 23:3, ‘And the king stood by a pillar, and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and all their soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people stood to the covenant.’
Here is a King and his people making a pledge.
What kind of a pledge have we made with our family?
What commitment or promise have we made to the Lord?
No repentance is genuine which does not lead to external improvement;
and no improvement is accepted of God,
but that which springs from the heart,
and is persevered in to the end.
The people of God ought to remain constant in our faith,
Even when the entire world gives into their superstition and idolatry.
Micah 4:5, ‘For all people will walk every one in the name of his god, and we will walk in the name of the LORD our God for ever and ever.’
What advice do you have for us,
when those around us are trying to get us off our path?
We cannot strengthen ourselves.
We need to trust the Lord to strengthen us.
And direct our steps, when we allow Him to.
Zechariah 10:12, ‘And I will strengthen them in the LORD; and they shall walk up and down in his name, saith the LORD.’
The Lord gives us complete liberty.
We shall appear everywhere as a part of the flock of Christ.
How does the Lord strengthen us in the world?
We ought to have knowledge to instruct others in the word of the Lord.
Certainly our family and others around us.
Our lips should preserve knowledge,
We are the messenger’s of God.
Malachi 2:6, ‘The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.’
How is our walk?
Do we act as if we are in a subway at NYC?
Or are we ready to give account?
God gives us all happiness.
When we disobey God
We are paving the way for our own misery.
God never gave a commandment to us,
Which He did not design that we should obey.
Obedience to all the commands of God is beneficial to the highest good.
in this world as well as in the world to come.
Let’s walk with God so we are not considered rebels.
Let’s walk righteously for our family’s sakes,
And for the sakes of those watching us.
