A Prosperous Life - Lesson 13 - Conclusion

Psalm 1:1-3, ‘Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.’

What have we learned these past three months?

Are we any stronger spiritually now than before?

Let’s review the key points
We first learned about not walking in the counsel of the ungodly.

Proverbs 13:20, ‘He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.’

How does the company we keep affect the quality of our life for the Lord?

We talked about not standing in the way of sinners.
About how if we are to be kept from harm we must keep out of harm's way.
And also about making our decisions in strength so we don’t have to in weakness.

Proverbs 4:14-15, ‘’Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away.’

How are we to be strong in this evil world?

We learned about not sitting in the seat of the scornful.

Psalm 26:4-5, ‘I have not sat with vain persons, neither will I go in with dissemblers. I have hated the congregation of evil doers; and will not sit with the wicked.’

Are we this bold when we speak to the Lord?
Or are we asking forgiveness for the same sins as yesterday?
Or are we hiding our face from the Lord,
like a dog that knocked over the garbage can?

We learned about independence.

Romans 6:18, ‘Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.’

The Lord wants us free.
Do we burden ourselves and limit our own independence?

We learned about true joy.
I believe we all get overwhelmed at times,
Even when we try our best not to.

James 1:2-3, ‘My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.’

How do we feel and show true joy during those times?

We learned of what our delight should be.
External service is nothing in the sight of God,
without obedience of heart to His revealed will.

Psalm 40:8, ‘I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.’

We know we are happier and more content when we do what the Lord has told us.
Why do we procrastinate or pretend that we didn’t hear Him?

We reviewed what it means to meditate.

Psalm 119:97-99, ‘O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.’

If we are going to God direct in prayer,
To Him direct in His word,
And listening to Him directly in our heart,
Why do we need to get everyone else’s opinion?

We learned about the many rivers.
About how to not have all our spiritual eggs in one basket.

What are our sources of spiritual nourishment?

We learned about His fruit.
And about how we can do nothing spiritually acceptable alone.

John 15:4-5 ‘Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.’

Are we performing for the Lord,
Like a dog doing the same trick over and over to get a treat?

Or are we truly a vessel that we allow Him to use as He sees fit?

We learned about His season.

Galatians 6:9, ‘And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.’

Do you have any advice for us when we start to get tired?

We learned about not withering.

1 Peter 2:20, ‘For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.’

How do you handle those times?

Finally we reviewed what true prosperity should look like.
Everyone is happy,
in whatsoever circumstances,
whose heart is unreservedly dedicated to their Maker.
In the book of Job, Elihu speaks some wisdom to us.

Job 36:11, ‘If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.’

How can we obey and serve Him?
Then how are we to live our days in prosperity and our years in pleasure?
