Call of the Wild - Lesson 5 - Insignificant
Before the Lord created us, He created the animal kingdom. We appear to be advanced, so then why is it we keep loosing sight of the basics?
He allows us to have dominion over His creation.
He allows us to have His Word and a free will.
Let’s search the scriptures to review what basics He has left there for us to revisit
and possibly learn some for the first time.
Moth
I was told that if you touch a moth’s wings and remove that powder
They cannot fly and they will die.
I have also watched moths being blinded by the light fly into a bug zapper and perish.
We see them gathering around streetlights
And at the lights that guide the entrances to our homes.
I believe the only purpose for the moth is food for other creatures.
Are we any more significant than the moth?
If angels may be unstable, how can we stabilize ourselves?
We walk this earth in our earthen vessels.
As we will one day return to dust when we perish.
We are so fragile, life is so frail.
We hear stories of freak accidents where people are paralyzed
or killed because of something that appears to be so insignificant.
It appears useless at times to sift for meanings in some of the rubble.
We are walking around in earthen vessels and we dwell in houses of clay.
We have a mortal frame and when we secure ourselves in buildings
they are just as weak and perishable.
Job 4:17-21, ‘Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker? Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly: How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth? They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it. Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.'
…which are crushed before the moth…’
Sooner than a moth is crushed, which is easily done by a gentle touch of the finger.
What are your thoughts on our fragility?
We are vessels made of skin.
They are rotting more and more each day,
because of old age, because of sin.
Like a garment corroded by the moth.
Our calamities are the same that everyone goes through.
There is no new thing under the sun.
We all suffer from the common miseries of man.
Our earthly bodies are rotting on the vine.
We are being consumed.
Job 13:23-28, ‘How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin. Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy? Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble? For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth. Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet. And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.’
Our bodies were growing and growing.
At some age the growth process slowed down.
Eventually stopped and went backward.
What about the part of our body the brain?
Is our brain growing or has it also stopped and went backward?
As for things being moth eaten…
I don’t believe moths will eat the clothes off your back.
I believe they eat those that are lying dormant.
Those that have been put away for a rainy day.
‘Don’t throw that away, I might need that.’
James 5:2, ‘Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.’
How would you rate the condition of our riches?
How would you rate the condition of our garments?
Remember money is not the root of all evil.
The love of money is the root of all evil.
All means all.
Sounds like we may have the wrong type of treasures than.
Are we laying up worldly treasures or heavenly treasures?
Riches are no sin in themselves,
but the improper use of riches is a sin.
Matthew 6:19, ‘Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:’
So what are we then to do?
Worms
Crawling around in the mud and muck.
Worms spend their days eating garbage and other people’s trash.
Blind, slimy, gross. Crawling on the ground.
A hermaphrodite. It is not a man or a woman.
It has both sexual organs.
Spends it’s days groveling on the ground and under rocks.
Job 25:6, ‘How much less man, that is a worm? and the son of man, which is a worm?’
Why does God want communion with us?
He does want communion with us.
He wants to be with us forever.
We don’t deserve it, but He gave it to us and I am thankful.
Isaiah 51:8, ‘For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.’
How can the assurance of our salvation help us live more righteously?
Let’s not be afraid of death.
Let’s keep on living.
Yes, we deserve no more than the moths and the worms
who we appear to be closely related to.
He created us just a little lower than the angels.
Certainly a little above the moth and the worm.
Ask for forgiveness.
Truly believe He forgave you.
If you are holding onto some nonsense from the past
Give it to Him again.
This time for real.
Know He took it away.
Even when others remind us.
Or when we see it in the mirror.
God has an awesome plan for us.
If He didn’t our job would be done and we would already be home.
