Bend in the Road - Lesson 8 - Obstacles Removed
As God's people we are blind,And are in need of a guide.
God’s chosen people needed a guide when they left Egypt.
His people again needed a leader
when they were in the wilderness of the Roman Empire.
We are blind as we don’t know God’s Divine Way or plan.
We need to be shown the way, as we know it not.
It is not an often-traveled path.
We may even be on it alone.
But are we truly alone?
Isaiah 42:16, ‘And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.’
Here we are at week 8 of this lesson.
Have we learned anything about our walk?
Can you share something with us that you have learned?
God has a plan for our lives.
He has an awesome plan for each one of us.
The closer we listen and follow
The sooner that plan will be realized.
We have all heard the expression making a mountain out of a molehill.
Do we do that at times?
Does the obstacle in front of us blind us?
Where should our eyes be focused?
Isaiah 40:4, ‘Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:’
How can we focus on the Lord working in our lives,
Rather than focusing on the negative?
Story of the Spider Web
A man was running from those who were after him. If the enemy caught him, they were going to kill him.
He ran for as long as he could, he was exhausted. He could go no further.
He found a small cave in the shadows. It was only slightly larger than him. He knew he would be caught. As he laid down and quietly prayed with one eye opened he noticed a spider start to spin a web. The spider wove a web over the opening of the small cave.
As the enemy approached they looked at the cave entrance and noticed the spider and the untouched web and knew the person they were after could not be in the small sanctuary. And they were on their way.
With the Lord steel bars are as a spider's web and with the same Lord, a spider's web are as steel bars.
Isaiah 45:2, ‘I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:’
Is God a liar?
Why do we doubt that He will take care of our obstacles?
Maybe they are not obstacles,
And that’s why they are still in our path?
Isaiah 49:11, ‘And I will make all my mountains a way, and my highways shall be exalted.’
So He is going to bulldoze over the high spots,
And fill in the low spots.
It then says, ‘and my ways shall be exalted.’
Maybe we have left the path God has laid before us?
Some times our mountain isn’t a physical object.
Possibly it is an enemy, a person.
The word of God does not return void.
If He told us to do something we will be able to do it.
If He laid the foundation He will bring it to conclusion.
Zechariah 4:7, ‘Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.’
Quite possibly our journey gets hindered by our pride.
We start doing something for the Lord,
We are in awe of the work He is doing through us,
We may even receive praise from others as we do it.
Are we giving God all the Glory and honor?
Once again, if God wants something done, it will get done.
If He told us to do something He wants us to do it.
We have read a lot of verses from David and how bold his prayers were.
I believe he trusted God’s promises.
And knew that his prayers were in the will of God.
And he trusted and would wait for God’s timeframe.
Matthew 21:21, ‘Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.’
‘have faith, an doubt not…’
Do we pray Lord, if you want that obstacle removed please remove it,
If not that’s ok too.
Or do you pray with boldness,
Lord, I know you want this obstacle removed,
Please supernaturally remove it now.
How do you feel when your children take you for granted?
How do you feel when your spouse takes you for granted?
When you get taken for granted enough you start to pull back a little.
What about the Lord?
We ask for travel mercies,
do we say thank you Lord when we arrive at our destination safely.
We ask the Lord to bless our food to our bodies,
Do we thank Him at the end of the meal that we didn’t choke and die?
What about the bigger things?
What about when the Lord returns a wayward son or daughter?
Do we try to take some of the credit for our excellent parenting?
Or when we recover from a health problem?
Do we take some of the credit because we ate healthy or exercised?
John 11:41, ‘Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.’
What can we learn from this verse?
In conclusion
In the midst of judgment, mercy and truth shall not be forgotten;
God's chosen shall be led safely,
and their afflictions shall be removed.
Specially precious are the words, "and not forsake them."
Why are we sorrowful?
For God is our friend still.
Never has He deserted a sincerely believing heart,
and He never will.
Let us, then,
Rest in His love,
and go forward to our life's end with triumphant courage.
